Helena Griffiths : Earthquakes volcanoes and Tsunamis. - Understanding the natural hazards that the earth throws at us.

Have you ever considered why the UK doesn't have any volcanoes? Or why some volcanoes erupt explosively and other just bubble away 'quietly'? Can you predict earthquakes? And why have there been so many tsunamis in the last 20 years? This talk will help you answer all of these questions, and more, about how the earth 'works', and why and where we get earthquakes volcanoes and tsunamis.

Helena is a geologist who has worked as an exploration geologist in oil and gas for nearly 20 years and who has a passion for 'feeling' the geology by visiting active volcanoes. She shares the science behind these hazards and some stories from her travels to steaming vents and bubbling lava lakes!
